EP Budgets Committee gives green light to proposal for Bulgaria’s extra compensation for Kozloduy NPP

Brussels. The European Parliament's Committee on Budgets has adopted a statement on allocating EUR 300 million in extra compensation for shutting down units in Kozloduy NPP.
The committee says the sum suggested corresponds to the EU's multiannual financial framework for the period between 2007 and 2013.
At the same time the MEPs appeal on the European Commission to take into account the fact that the additional sums allocated for Kozloduy NPP and other political priorities are already exhausting the reserves in the European budget and to table its review for the period until 2013.
The Bulgarian MEPs on the Committee on Budgets, Ivaylo Kalfin  and Nadezhda Neynski, were actively working for this outcome. They were rapporteurs on the issue for the Group of the Socialists and Democrats and the Group of the European People's Party respectively.
The voting in the Committee on Budgets opens the way to the adoption of the EP's final statement first in the Committee on Industry, Transport and Energy in April and then in the plenary hall in May.
